What Should Not be Added to Lomi?

Lomi can handle a wide variety of food waste and Lomi Approved compostables, but some materials, like plastic and very hard foods, are better suited for the recycling or garbage bin.

We suggest avoiding the following items because they are either not compostable, hazardous, or will lead to an unfavourable dirt texture:

  • Butter and cooking oils
  • Conifer branches
  • Cooked potatoes
  • Fruit pits
  • Hard bones (ex. chicken, beef)
  • Human or animal waste
  • Hygiene products
  • Liquids
  • Plastic lined bags
  • Non-organic materials
  • Nut shells (thick, ex. walnut)
  • Popcorn kernels (un-popped)
  • Styrofoam

Be sure to check out all the items that Lomi can break down by reading this article.
